Ten minutes of light, three evenings a week
A tabletop LED panel that combines 630 nm red light with 850 nm near-infrared, the two wavelength bands used in most clinical work on skin photobiomodulation. Light in this range is absorbed by mitochondria in skin cells and, with repeated sessions, has been shown in a controlled trial of 136 volunteers to improve measured collagen density, skin roughness and complexion. The panel delivers about 60 mW/cm² at 15 cm, so a ten-minute session gives a dose in the range used in that research. It runs cool, has a built-in timer and comes with protective goggles.
Cleanse and dry the face. Put on the goggles. Sit 15 to 30 cm from the panel for 10 minutes, 3 to 5 evenings a week. Apply serum and moisturiser afterwards. Give it 8 to 12 weeks before judging results.
Do not look directly into the LEDs; wear the goggles. Do not use if you are pregnant, have a photosensitivity disorder, take photosensitising medication (some antibiotics, retinoids, St John's wort) or have an active skin cancer or open wound on the treatment area without medical advice. Not for children.

One good trial, a plausible mechanism and some rules worth following. A straight look at LED panels. · 7 min read
